Turunç Diary - January 2018

Merhaba

  • Looking across the harbour from Turunç Hotel
  • Entering the village, at the bend, between Panorama and Zeytin Villas
  • Opposite Fidan apartments
  • Another new build opposite Village Bar
  • Along the 'cow path' from Fidan apartments
  • New build behind Gozdem 1 - up the side road from Vanilla Bar
  • Antik Restaurant new villas near Olive Grove apartments
  • New car parking opposite Serife's Kitchen
  • Blue skies and distant snow-capped mountains
  • Spring flowers have started to appear ...
  • .... along with tree blossom
  • Tree cutting alongside the canal
  • A relatively stone- and plastic-free beach
  • The sea's warm enough for some!

Another two months have been and gone.

December was relatively mild and January quite wet. You just never know what to wear. This last week has seen shorts weather in the sun and jumper weather when you turn a corner into the shade! But I'm not complaining. Spring is definitely in the air.

Turunç is always quiet in the winter although there is somewhere open every night where you get eat, drink and be merry. This year Tapas Mapas has opened it's doors on Tuesday evenings for delicious food and great entertainment by Murat with his wonderfully unique soul-felt renditions of popular music.

There has been quite a lot of construction work in the village over the winter - almost every spare parcel of land seems 'fair game'. If you are lucky enough to visit Turunç this year (and I hope you are) we'd be interested in your views on these changes.

Gürüşürüz!

Dedikodu Kız

Ibrahim Sevin

January 2018 saw the passing of one of the best-known and best-loved village residents.

Ibrahim Sevin - or "Ibo" to all who knew him - was one of the first people that many of us met when we discovered Turunç all those years ago.

The village will be a different place this year without his personality.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family and his many friends.
